Wild Women Retreat – July Cancelled

July 24 @ 3:00 pm - July 26 @ 3:00 pm

£160 – £200

Wild Women Retreat

The Wild Women Retreat is an escape to the woods to deepen our connection with nature and is a safe space for anyone who identifies as female.

* Start each morning with a nature meditation * Practice yoga under the trees * Rediscover your creativity with woodland crafts including willow baskets, weaving with wool, making charcoal or whittling * Relax with nature walks * Share communally cooked food around the campfire * Explore your connection with nature * Indulge in a massage in our yurt *

A weekend of learning, camping, singing, lazy walks, creativity, time to think and time to make new friends.

You are invited to a playful introduction to nature connection and woodland skills. This is the perfect opportunity to try wild camping, with a small group of women learning fireside skills in a non-competitive environment. Meals will be cooked together on the fire and are included in the price.

The woodland is a fantastic arboretum just 18 miles north of Bristol. Wild and overgrown, the woods are full of wildlife as well as champion trees.

Our prices have recently gone up to reflect the amount of work and energy that go into organising our retreats, and to provide us with a budget for more beautiful food. We are still charging around half of the cost of most similar events being held for women’s camping events, and we hope that you will value the weekends just as much, and we can pay our staff a living wage for their time. We have a bursary scheme available for anyone who might not be able to afford the full amount, just ask for details of how to access this or donate towards it.

This is a wild camping event. We are invited into this unique space as long as we look after it, so please bring everything you need with you and take it all away again. This includes your waste – there are no bins on site, so if you bring bottles and tins, please be prepared to take them away with you.

We can arrange glamping options if you would like us to – however most people prefer to bring their own tents and all the usual comforts for sleeping.

All food is all included in the price. We will cook three ample meals per day over the campfire, usually with puddings, and encourage you to join in with the preparation and washing up. Please email your dietary requirement to bec@honeywoodsevents.co.uk. We can happily cater for vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free, and will change the menu if needed to accommodate your diet.

There is no running water on site. We will bring enough water for cooking and washing up; please bring water to drink and for your ablutions.

We do, you will be happy to hear, have a basic composting toilet on site, in case you are not brave enough for a wild wee!

We have some limited space for parking just a few meters from the camping clearing, so you will not have to walk very far with your camping gear.

Leave no trace

As we have already mentioned, we are camping in a wild space with no facilities! As a community we will all be responsible for keeping our camp clean of rubbish, respecting the woodland around us and taking everything away with us when we leave.

Tortworth Arboretum

We are incredibly lucky to be invited in to a most unusual woodland, Tortworth Arboretum.

Planted with exotic trees from 1852 onwards, the woodland was left to grow wild over the last ten years; but in 2014 it was given a new lease of life as the Tortworth Forest Centre took on the task of restoring it and making it available for community events.

It has an amazing collection of rare and unusual trees, including many veteran and champion trees, and it is also teeming with wildlife, from wild flowers to birds and insects.

For more information about this unusual place visit www.tortwortharboretum.org.

Karma Duties

From the moment you arrive in the woodland, you are part of a new community for the weekend. We won’t have lots of staff and volunteers available to clean up rubbish and wash up – we want everyone to get involved with making this event as collaborative and respectful as possible.

By taking time to prepare food for others, to keep an eye on the woodland, and help out with some of the organisation – we all contribute to the success of the weekend.

On arrival, we will ask you to put your name down against some of the chores, and this way we know that no one person will be stuck with all of the washing up!

Nature walks

We will make the most of our stay in this amazing woodland to search out some of its wildlife, looking at wildflowers, listening for birds, and learning some tree identification.

The woodland has plenty of space to get completely lost exploring. Find hidden areas by climbing through the undergrowth, discover unusual plants, flowers and mushrooms, find oaks that you can climb into and take some time out to explore and play in this stunning woodland.
